Hi, Reader! I’ve been sporadic lately. When you are trying to build margin in your life, unpredictability is the enemy. You need a rhythm. So, we are building one here. Moving forward, you are going to hear from me three times a week. Each email is designed to do a very specific job for you, depending on where you are in your week. Here is the new cadence: 1. Real Talk Tuesday (The Deep Dive) This is the flagship. You’ll get one story, one breakdown of why the system broke, and three tactical moves you can make that night to fix it. This is about the friction between work and home. 2. Tactical Thursday (The Work-Read) We can’t fix the tension at home if we don’t fix the chaos at the office. Thursdays are purely tactical. I’ll be sharing the exact program management and governance systems I use to stop acting as a “human API.” If you want to stop carrying work stress into the kitchen, you need to read this one at your desk. 3. Saturday Coffee (The 936) No work talk. No systems. Just a quiet moment, a photo, and a reminder of why we build the systems in the first place. If three emails a week is too much, feel free to just open the ones that serve you best. But if you are actively trying to take your schedule back, this is the blueprint. See you on Tuesday. Let me know what you think. The Systems Dad, Christopher Lynn |
Welcome to the Systems Dad! I send out two posts per week about using systems at work and home to manage chaos and bring calm to life.
Hi, Reader! The Friction Every August, the Q3 roadmap and the back-to-school season land at the exact same time. Most leaders look at the overlapping schedules and make a fatal operational error: they don’t adjust the roadmap. They expect their teams to maintain peak velocity during a massive transition season. They try to run two high-stakes programs simultaneously without adjusting their capacity models. The system doesn’t break, but they do. The Blueprint If you are entering a transition...
Hi, Reader! It was 4:00 PM last Friday afternoon. I was standing in the home office with my two laptops open side-by-side. On the work laptop was my Q3 roadmap. The travel dates, the offsites, the Q4 prep. On the personal laptop was the family calendar. The back-to-school orientations, the supply runs, the new routines. I stared at both screens, trying to reconcile them, and I felt a heavy sinking in my chest. There wasn’t enough margin. I had been telling myself the same lie I tell myself...
Hi, Reader! The school year is starting and the schedule is going to break if you don't get ahead of it tonight.Right now, your Q3 roadmap and your family calendar are living in two different places. You can't see the collision until it happens. Here is the rule for the next 5 days:Take 10 minutes tonight and merge them. Put the family calendar and the work calendar in the exact same view. If there is a school orientation on Wednesday, block it on your work calendar right now. Treat it like a...
